Salzgitter AG would like to attract more women to the company, especially from natural sciences/technical degree courses.
The first Female Students’ Day called "Making a Career at Salzgitter AG - Female Engineers in the World of Steel" took place on Tuesday. Women engaged in technical degree courses had the opportunity of getting to know the company: Markus Rottwinkel, Personnel Marketing, spoke on joining the company and opportunities for development. Dr. Pamela Wolf (Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH), Dr. Marion Calcagnotto (Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung GmbH) and Karin Rabe (KHS GmbH), three female engineers from different companies and fields of activities within the Group described their careers and their experiences with HR development programs and various activities. The students were then taken on a tour of the Salzgitter steel works to see the production of steel live. The welcoming speech was made by Michael Kieckbusch, Managing Director of HR at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, who presented the Group with selected key data.
The event was organized together with the "fiMINT" Project (Frauen in Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaft und Technik) which stands for women in mathematics, informatics, natural sciences and engineering. fiMINT is attached to Niedersächsische Technische Hochschule (Niedersachsen Institutes of Technology, NTH) which is an alliance of the TU Braunschweig, TU Clausthal and Leibniz Universität Hannover. Its aim is to support students and graduates from MINT degree courses in selecting and embarking their careers. fiMINT offers cross-discipline qualifications, coaching, advice and cooperates with companies in organizing events.
In August 2011, Salzgitter AG joined "Go MINT!", the National Pact for Women in MINT careers.
The Female Students’ Day in November marks the start to other activities of Salzgitter AG in this field.
